I bought a New Year present for myself last Saturday. It is the entry-level Raleigh Grand Sport 2008 road bike which I bought from a guy who was selling it for his friend who is posted overseas for the next 2 years.
I’ve been wanting, I mean needing, a road bike since my Old Piece of Junk starts to show signs of breaking down. I was eyeing any road bike with a minimum configuration of the Tiagra groupset since my budget of less than 1k doesn’t allow me to buy anything with a higher groupset.
I’ve been scouting in the local cycling forum, Togoparts Marketplace, for any good offers and there were a couple. But I didn’t manage to grab them as by the time the owners replied, they would sms that the bikes had been sold. Such tough luck.
I nearly came to a decision to buy a new Polygon Helios 300 Year 2010 model (mixture of Sora and Tiagra groupset) retailing at $980, when out of the blue, I saw an ad in the forum on New Year Day’s afternoon. It has a complete Tiagra groupset and has only been lightly used for less than a year. That means there is still some life left in the bike for me. It’s size of 50 suits me well and it’s price of $780 seals the deal.
Normally a bike with that configuration (the owner upgraded it from the original groupset) will sell at around $1300 new. So I quickly smsed for a bike viewing to be made the following day. My cousin and I met him at Downtown East carpark to complete the transaction.
And now, this black and white road bike is mine. Now comes the part of mastering this ride.

For my run just now, I managed to dip below 38mins.
