Notes:

A supposedly simple plan to have a ride after my tuition session turned into a battle between the Good and the Dark Side. I was simply too lazy to go out after returning from tuition and compounded with the fried noodle that my mom whipped up, I was certainly ready to succumb to my laziness again.

I was giving out excuses like they were money growing out of the ground. There’s tomorrow. I’m too full. It’s too dark (Is that even a valid reason?). Pasir Ris Park is haunted (That is a good excuse to skip.)

But I still went out for a ride. And feeling the effect of the endorphin coursing through my veins at this very moment makes the whole ride worthwhile.

Hopefully I can say the same tomorrow morning since I’ve been skipping my runs.

Shh…

Notes:

Nothing much to report.

The Straits of Johor wind is undulating today thus posing quite a challenge.

And my butt is hurting.

Friday Night Swim: One Small Step For Man

Sengkang Swimming Complex

Swim

450 metres

Rest every 50m

Notes:

That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind – Neil Armstrong

Well not that my small step in improvement will significantly alter the course of mankind. But knowing that I start from having zero ability to execute the front crawl, well I’ll take any small improvement I can get.

I think I can see some miniscule form of progress in my freestyle aka front crawl. If on previous swims I have to stop to catch my breath every 30m, now I can swim the whole length (50m) before taking a short break.

Unfortunately, we arrived at the swimming complex a bit late so the swim workout just now had to be cut short.

Next time then.

Wednesday Night Cycle: Love Is In The Air

Notes:

Let’s do some simple arithmetic…

What do you get if you add:

An amorous couple, a secluded spot in the park, a quiet weekday night, a windy breeze and finally the Devil, holding its pitchfork standing nearby?

You may add a pest of a cyclist passing them once too often in the equation too.

Hey one full lap of Pasir Ris Park is only about 7km and I have a chicken heart so until I’m brave enough, the roads are out of bound for me at the moment.

😛

Bodyweight Exercises Test

Push up: 25

Sit up: 40

Notes:

As time progresses, like in any other relationships, my connection with my Prancing Zebra is developing at a good rate. My handling is much better than when I first rode on her. I still remembered the first time when I test-ride her when I was totally unsure of where to even place my hands on the drop bar; and I can proudly claim to be a cycling afficionado.

Goodness gracious me!

While others balk at the sheer boredome of road cycling events like the Giro d’Italia, de la Vuelta a España and the grandpapi of them all, Le Tour de France (I would like to add The Tour of Langkawi but it’s not telecasted here 😦 ), I love to see the micro-politics that is omnipresent during each stage of these tours. How there will always be the usual suspects of breakaway and this in turn will prompt the general classification contenders with the backing of their teams to start rallying other teams to assist them in reeling in the breakaways.

Back to the main headlines of the day, wussy me is still apprehensive of riding on the road here, so for the time being, Pasir Park will be my test track where I will train to build up my endurance before joining my local cycling group for their rides. As of now, I couldn’t even sustain an average speed of 30km/hr to keep up with them.

Besides that, I finally did my bodyweight tests for the 100 push up and 200 sit up programs and I did pretty average to say the least. So I will continue Week 3 under the second column.

Till then taking care!

Auf Wiedersehen!

p/s: If you have 5mins to spare, do visit the website and blog of an ex 400-pounder to a multiple Ironman finisher, Dan Benintendi. I do not know him personally but his story is such an inspiration and in August he’s embarking on a monumental swim from Spain to Africa.

Notes:

After the last family run during New Year’s day, we had our 2nd leisure run this morning with two additional family members joining in the fun. And like last week, today’s run was great with much chatter and teasing going on, until some didn’t realise that they had run that far for the first time ever.

I’m delighted that more of my family members are taking up this healthy lifestyle. Plans are already in place to participate in the North East Run 2010 together.

Yahoo!

My ultimate goal is to pull the auntie-auntie and uncle-uncle generation to embark on this journey too. If Running Mom and company can do it, so can they.

However, starting the run at 9am meant that my skin will keep getting darker and blacker from what it originally is.

Aiyoyo.

The sabun lulur or soap scrub, that my sister bought for her own use, but one that I’ve also been using, supposedly will whiten the skin after frequent usage, but it looks like it’s magic is not working as I am still as dark as ever and using the soap causes my skin to sting like I’ve been bitten by million fire ants at one go.

And for you who think that I am vain, hey give me a break will you. Everyone loves to look great or at most not be an eye sore to the rest. So if you have any secret remedy or petua-petua mak nenek that will aid in whitening the skin, do share aight.

Thanks yous.

About the bike in the afternoon, well, I’m a bit appalled by the lack of safety consciousness shown by some cyclists at Pasir Ris Park. Although I know that some of us are good at multi-tasking, but talking in the phone while swaying, not cycling, your bike side to side on one hand without nary a care to those around you, is a little too much right. I could complain about some other scenes that I witnessed just now, but I think it’s best I end here.

Goods nights!
